Zakarpatya, an orphan
I was born in 1999 in the village of Vonihovo, Tyachivskyi raion, Zakarpattia oblast, Ukraine. For five years, I lived with my mother, father, and sisters. Unfortunately, my mother died because of problems with her legs. Our grandmother cared for us. Our father began to drink and beat us. After some beatings, my sisters and I were taken to the hospital, and then we were placed into a children's home in Uzhhorod [130 km northwest]. After some time, our father took us home and stopped drinking. But when he started again, we were taken to the orphanage in Perechyn [145 km northwest]. When I was 6 years old, we were informed that our father died. While living at a boarding school, where we were treated well, various good people came and helped us, and we traveled abroad to visit them. Now I am supported by the Page family in America, for which I am very grateful. They are like relatives and I really love them. After completing high school, I also graduated from Tyachiv Lyceum. Then I came to Hebron Academy, where I am very happy. I want to finish my studies successfully, find a good job, and be a volunteer as I have a desire to care for orphans.
